Life Through the Lens of a Not-Perfect Firstborn Son

A memoir tracing one man's extraordinary journey, from a childhood in Luvungi, Democratic Republic of Congo, through the upheaval of war and displacement, to years of resilience in Kakuma refugee camp, Kenya, and finally resettlement in the United States in 2015. This is a story of survival, faith, dating, marriage, fatherhood and the quiet weight of being the firstborn son.

Book cover: Life Through the Lens of a Not-Perfect Firstborn Son by Amani Bisisi
To be the firstborn son is to carry a lens you didn't choose, and learn to see through it anyway.

This memoir explores what it means to lead when you're still learning, to have faith when the path is unclear, and to build a family legacy from the rubble of displacement. Amani Bisisi writes with unflinching honesty about failure, resilience, and the grace that carried him forward.

About the Author

Amani Bisisi

Amani Bisisi was born in Luvungi, Democratic Republic of Congo, where war began before his first birthday. After years of displacement, his family found refuge in Kakuma Refugee Camp in Kenya, where he gave his life to Christ and began discovering the purpose that would shape the rest of his life. In 2015, Amani resettled in the United States and later graduated from Grand Canyon University. Before becoming an entrepreneur, he worked at Capgemini, managing commercial proposals and multimillion-dollar deal budgets. Today, he is the founder and CEO of Own Your Finances (OYF), helping individuals and families move from financial knowledge to lasting financial capability. He lives in Texas with his wife, Purity, whom he met at LeTourneau University, and their three children: Malkia, Malaika, and Maarifa. Life Through the Lens of a Not-Perfect Firstborn Son is his most personal work: a reflection on faith, responsibility, resilience, and the unseen burdens carried by firstborn children, written as a legacy for his children and an encouragement to anyone learning to lead through hardship.
